EXTRA CURRICULAR

Pupil playing violinPupils at Cwmtawe are able to select from a wide range of extra curricular activities which cater for every interest. Music, Sport, Drama, Business Studies, Modern Foreign Languages, Welsh, History and Geography are just some of the subject areas that arrange exciting and engaging study visits to supplement and enhance adademic study.

In addition to study visits, many of our staff volunteer their time for pupils to continue their studies through lunchtime and after school activities.

Year 11 RugbySport
The school has an excellent reputation for fostering talent in sport. Many pupils have progressed to play senior rugby for first class clubs and several are now household names - Gareth Edwards, Elgan Rees, Bleddyn Bowen, Robert Jones, Arwel Thomas, James Griffiths and Aled Brew to name but a few. Joanne Melen represented Wales at the commonwealth games in 2002 and won a silver medal for Judo.

Cwmtawe is also involved in the successful PESS programme (Physical Education and School Sport) aimed at developing positive attitudes to sport in conjunction with our primary partners.

Duke of Edinburgh's ExpeditionDuke of Edinburgh's Award
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award has a high profile at Cwmtawe with more than 100 pupils and 10 staff involved. Pupils begin their Bronze Award at Year 9 and many continue through Year 10 to achieve the Silver Award.

We also have a number of ex-pupils who return to the school from further education to complete their Gold Award a number of years later.

School Production
Cwmtawe is well reknowned in the Swansea Valley for the quality of it's school productions. This year, pupils performed 'High School Musical' in our school hall. Previous productions held at the Art Centre in Pontardawe include 'Red Hot and Cole', 'Grease' and 'Bugsy'.

Media4schools teamMedia4Schools
We are proud to be working in partnership with media4schools from 2007. A team of twelve of our Year 9 pupils and three staff members have been trained at Sony in Pencoed to produce high quality television media broadcasts.

We hope to stream video from this site very soon. Watch this space!
